If you are an Internet user (who isn’t) then you will no doubt have come across the terms SOPA or PIPA. Both acronyms have been at the top of search trends across the Internet over the past few months. For those who haven’t yet fully come to terms with these acronyms, this short article should provide some background, and help you to understand the pros and cons associated with their implementation.

SOPA:

SOPA stands for the “Stop Online Piracy Act”. Initiated by US Representative Lamar Smith.

PIPA:

PIPA stands for the PROTECT IP ACT (Which, in turn stands for Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act). A bit of mouthful! This would become a Senate Act.
