I have been a Windows Mobile user ever since it’s existence. with the Compaq iPaq devices that were available both in colour and monochrome models. Back then palm was the bigest player in the hand-held arena. Soon Microsoft grew bigger in the Windows Mobile scene which eventually threw palm out of the big picture!Windows Mobile was good, lots of applications and lots of devices to choose from.

Then apple appeared in the scene with a device called iPhone. A device using a brilliant user interface, finger based instead of stylus, working so smooth that any Windows Mobile user would be jealous!

It did not take long for Mobile enthusiasts to realize the potential of the iPhone and most importantly realize that the Windows Mobile platform was a few years back. And still is since MS has not drastically improved WinMo. Today the iPhone has outpaced the Windows Mobile OS Market share.

Apple has reinvented how these devices could work and most importantly made us realize the potential behind them.

Software distribution
You could surely download over the air a .cab file And install it on your Windows Mobile device, however iPhone made it ALOT easier and simpler. You just browse the app store select your app and bam it’s payed and working on your device, or even simpler you ca tap and hold on an icon and the tap the X button to delete. The whole process was made far easier for the consumer and the developer.

Internet connectivity
It’s sad that many companies that sell devices like tha iPhone do not realize that the bigest benefit of the iPhone is being an Internet connected device out the box! That is partly the reason why apple’s plan is to sell the devices through several carriers worldwide instead of selling the bare devices. WinMo device surely had wifi and a browser in there for years, however it was simply not easy and not complete enought to use!

Multitasking
Most Windows Mobile users will hit you back if you tell them that iPhone is better, they will tell you about multitasking, that its does not exist in the iphone, Bravo apple for that. The OS simply makes it easy to remember an application state so you can go back and forth applications when you need to without them being open and hogging the cpu or memory making your device slow for something that is simply open and you are not using! Windows Mobile users are pathetic since the first application that they will install is a REAL CLOSE button that will KILL a running application when they close it so it will not hog, memory and cpu! And then they come bragging that WinMo is multitasking and the iphone is not! whivh makes it worse right? nope, very wrong!
As far as i am concerned the iPhone lets me use the device do do anything from going back and forth applications like i would in WinMo. Does it even better since its brilliant that u can sit playing a game, close it, then open it after a week and continue playing right where you left off. This is brilliant, this is very useful.

The future of the iPhone looks very promising, apple managed to launch a device that outpaced any competition from day one. Today it has even outpaced the Windows Mobile OS Market share. And its important to note that apple and the iphone is a single device via a single vendor while WinMo is several vendors which theoretically can do much more. Will it? i doubt about MS ability to create an ecosystem as sucesful as the iphone!
